History: Hase on the wiki and the list of episodes gives the best description of what happens during the series in general.
Personality: The first thing that most people notice about Hase is that he is a perfectly normal teenage boy. Of course, the second thing they would notice is that he has an overly tenacious spirit and will go out of his way to get what he wants or needs done, though this stubbornness only applies to things that he personally cares about and not things like school, which is BORING and HARD. Hase comes off as a constant optimist and is really great at pushing to get to the good of things even when all anyone else can see is something bad. That is why it is so simple for him to make friends - because he sees the good in everyone, no matter who they are.
He also has the ability to understand what other people are thinking and feeling very deeply. He can be a little bit dense at the beginning, but once he figures out how someone is feeling, he knows their feelings very intimately and abuses himself as a fool for not figuring it out sooner. And once he knows what is wrong with one of his friends, he will go out of his way to make sure that he can help them fix the problem and make them happy constantly. It is important to him that his friends be able to live a happy life, and he would even go so far as to remove himself from the picture if necessary.
Because Hase has a tendency to focus so heavily on what other people are thinking and feeling, he occasionally goes a little bit overboard and reads into things a little too much. When this happens, he tends to react dramatically and over-the-top until someone actually calms him down and manages to properly explain the situation to him. At which point he, of course, feels like an idiot and professes himself to be one. You know, the usual stuff.
Hase is not a particularly intelligent person, for all of his empathy and understanding of the human condition. His grades in school are abysmal (especially in math) and he can be very dense when it comes to how people feel about him specifically. So it is pretty easy to confuse him, but he is always willing to try hard and improve himself (unless it involves math, then that takes a LOT more prodding).
Overall, Hase is the sort of person that anyone would want to be friends with. He is sweet and caring and wants very badly to help out the people around him. He might be a little dumb and slow on the uptake, but he makes up for it with his tenacity and just how far he is willing to go to make sure that the people he cares about are happy, no matter the sacrifice to himself or his own happiness.
Debt: Hase would have asked for the ability to help Fujimiya-san become happier and for the Witch to fix Fujimiya-san’s memories so that she can go back to remembering her friends!
